How it all began
A NEW DAWN OF OF MOBILITY
In 1933, when Japan's roads were mostly unpaved, a new car drove over 500 kilometers from Osaka to Tokyo without any mechanical problems. That car was the first Datsun - built by the founder of Nissan Motors.
A decade later, when Japan was experiencing severe oil shortages during a time of abundant hydroelectric power, the government encouraged EV development. Nissan engineers rose to the challenge and created their first electric vehicle – the Tama.
A PROMISE THAT ECHOES THROUGH TIME
From these early creations to the original urban crossover and new e-POWER powertrain, we’ve always dared to do what others don't. It's something deep in our DNA, a pioneering spirit that continually pushes the boundaries of engineering. Explore moments from our past and present and find out how we’re still challenging conventions to create a cleaner and more inclusive tomorrow.
Driving electrifying change
From the Tama, our first electric vehicle created in 1947, to the cutting-edge ARIYA, our passion for electric vehicles is decades in the making – and it shows. Find out more about our electrical journey from its early beginnings to head-turning concepts, and our vision of the exciting road ahead.
OUR LEGACY
Smooth, seamless and endlessly exciting driving has only been made possible through the relentless striving for improvement. That’s exactly what we’ve been doing for over 9 decades. Take a look at some of our most iconic models.
Over 75 years ago, Japan faced severe oil and goods shortage. But one thing that was in plentiful supply was hydroelectric power. And so, Nissan’s first electric car was created.
The Nissan Patrol, our first SUV available in America was as tough and utilitarian as anything else on the market. But, it offered greater power along with a lower price tag.
After merging with Prince motors in the late 60s, Nissan combined its best technologies to produce the Skyline 2000GT-R, a high-performance car designed for touring car races.
The Datsun 240Z followed in the footsteps of the Datsun Bluebird to win the East African Safari Rally in 1971, Nissan's second win in a row.
A decade ago, we mixed the desirability of an SUV with the size, efficiency and performance of a compact hatchback.
In 2010, Nissan introduced Nissan LEAF® - the world’s first mass-produced, 100% electric, zero tailpipe emissions automobile.
The arrival of JUKE - Nissan's boisterous crossover - shook up the European market in 2012. Its bold, characteristic design was unlike anything else and continues to polarise opinions to this day.
More than a decade of EV expertise went into ARIYA, the all-electric crossover featuring e-4ORCE All-Wheel drive. Now, it's taking us into a truly exciting electric future.

Passion & Future
GUIDED BY EXPERIENCE
For 90 years, we've been passionate about improving driver experiences. That passion has created many iconic cars on the road as well as motorsports racetracks. Together, it's taught a lot about making cars that are smoother, more responsive and, quite simply, more fun to drive.
SHAPING THE FUTURE
We are driven by moving people - moving their minds, their hearts and moving the world in a more sustainable direction. We will always refuse to accept conventional wisdom that holds us back and continue to keep our eyes fixed on the road ahead - one that we're continually shaping.
Our commitment to sustainability
We've always maintained a focus on our connection with society and how we can positively impact communities. This perspective has driven several of our innovative technologies to move beyond automotive manufacturing and in substantial change.
GOING NEUTRAL
We're committed to carbon neutrality by 2050, and we're continuously working to minimise the impact on the environment - Just like our £1 billion investment in a world-first EV manufacturing ecosystem.
EVEN SAFER
We're always innovating to make our vehicles high-quality and reliable through new technologies and fresh thinking. That includes working toward a future with zero road fatalities.
